I’m an average Joe. I’m o.k. with it. I’m nothing out of the ordinary and my name is Joe.
Yup, I’m fairly average in most ways with the exception of my height, but don’t worry, I’ve learned to just look away from the tops of refrigerators and I don’t mind being helpful at the grocery store. Sometimes my longitudinal vantage point serves to remind me that I do, indeed, have a view. I have thoughts and would-be opinions on this and that, analogous to accumulating crud and supplying what might be helpful or perhaps an advisory “sorry, all out.”
Funny thing, today I actually cleaned the tops of bookshelves I encountered while painting molding AND accompanied my wife shopping. So, I feel (about as much as an average Joe admits to doing so) I’m in a good place to write about a couple of notables that have been swirling around up here from last week.
As I like to summarize “here’s the long of it:” crud accumulates. It’s not the individual particles of dust and dirt nor the grime on its own but what gathers, perhaps unnoticed, over time that makes something dingy.

The week ended similar to the way it began. It’s February! Roll out the swimsuit edition. Wow, SI! Aren’t you to be praised?! Look! A plus sized model! Wait. What? You’re not aspiring to acceptance and doing what you can to promote healthy body image, you’re (still) objectifying women. And, let’s get real! There’s nothing swimmable about those suits. As an average Joe, I’m guessing maybe others are thinking they’d like to see the actual images here, you know, the proof. Are the images worthy of Joe’s attention in this manner? Sorry, that’s not happening, and, yes, they are.
I know it was just a one-time thing with regard to the unfortunate lesson children and grown-up fans received in $exploitation. However, it’s the cumulative effect of witnessing the distortion of love that will undermine #purepassion for the game and play out in future relationships. The week had more to offer, but I’ll just leave it there. Yes, Joe knows these are individual incidents; seemingly innocuous, as society and those making a buck would like us to believe. But, you haven’t fallen for it, have you, Joe?
Having also made my opinion known elsewhere earlier this week, I’d like to take this opportunity to clear something up. Let me make it known here and now that I’m not an “…uptight, anal American.” I’m an average Joe.
