We Recognize

IAAM recognizes human trafficking as a scourge on humanity and the urgent need for people to step up and take responsibility for change.  Individual behavior is directly responsible for the on-going deMANd fueling this $32 billion per year criminal enterprise.  A focused effort is required in order to take the “man” out of deMANd and restate deceptive messages from society which seem to excuse or make sexual exploitation “ok” in the minds of many.  We recognize athletes as a resource!  And we work to create an ever-growing team to challenge a formidable opponent locally, domestically, and globally.

THE PROBLEM

Sexual exploitation makes up 79% of identified forms of human trafficking, including prostitution, forced stripping, massage services, and pornography. (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking, 2009)

The sex industry is largest and most profitable industry in the world. “It includes street prostitution, brothels, ‘massage parlors’, strip clubs, human trafficking for sexual purposes, phone sex, child and adult pornography, mail order brides and sex tourism – just to mention a few of the most common examples.” (Andersson et al, 2013)

Pornography is a public health crisis.

Due to the global demand or “market” fueling sex trafficking, hundreds of thousands of women and children fall into the hands of traffickers in their own countries and abroad each year.

Every country in the world is implicated by this injustice, whether as a country of origin, transit, or destination.

Total searches for teen-related porn reached an estimated 500,000 daily in March 2013, far larger than other genres, representing approximately one-third of total daily searches for pornographic web sites. (Dines, 2013)

Pornography is the new drug of choice with devastating outcomes for the addicted, their families and friends, and society.
