Rescue Women Foundation is a project to rescue, restore, and raise up women to their full dignity in Christ in and around Kampala, Uganda. The project began in 2018 primarily working in the field to empower women through micro-economic opportunity in order to raise themselves and their families out of desperate conditions. Single motherhood was then and is now the notable state existing within such dire circumstances.
As work took shape, it became clear that pregnant teens and even pre-teens were being twice victimized; first by sexual abuse, then by harmful societal norms and cultural superstition. Rescue Teen Pregnancy Centre was developed to serve these girls and their babies. Radical love is the only way to describe the means by which they are habilitated not only to face pregnancy and single motherhood, but to continue or resume their education.
In the loving environment, the girls come to recognize and know their true worth, not the devaluation of their humanity others have exacted upon them. Their physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs are addressed.
At the Foundation, human dignity is upheld and defended amid all stages of life. Currently, a new Foundation building consisting of a mission house and mothering home is needed. We’re bursting at the seams. Our numbers always force capacity as authorities such as police and village leaders continue to call on us to place referrals or to let us know about a particular situation. This collaboration is in addition to the field searches we conduct – which always turn up girls hiding in pit latrines among other places. Property has already been purchased. The Rescue Women Foundation project is extensive in scope. Its success in medical, maternal, and educational systems is a model for other projects in Uganda and outside of it as well.
