“Period poverty” describes how millions of women are subjected to injustice, inequity, and sexual exploitation due to having insufficient access to menstrual products, education, and sanitation facilities. It is a global community health dilemma that has long been overlooked. IAAM helps young women in slums and impoverished areas experience freedom. We work to keep these young women from isolation – a dangerous situation – and inability to participate in everyday activities by enabling them to manage their menstruation with dignity and comfort. The “It’s About Freedom. Period.” outreach provides free menstrual hygiene products and education to help ease the stigma of menstruation.
